Twinning is a concept where towns from geographically and politically distinct areas are linked, with the goal of fostering human contact and cultural links.
The Calne & District Twinning Association was formed in 1970, when Calne became linked with Charlieu, France. Since then Calne has become twinned with Caln, Pennsylvania, USA in 1982 and with Eningen-unter-Achalm, Germany in 1988.
The Association aims to foster friendship between the twinned towns and to encourage exchanges and links at all levels. Annual visits are made to either Charlieu or Eningen - in turn, these towns send groups to us here in Calne. In each case, visitors are guests who stay with host families - new and lasting friendships are made.
Links also exist with the Calne Silver Band and with The John Bentley School.
It is hoped that a similar level of activity with Caln Township will be built in the future.
We welcome new members to join us and are actively looking for youngsters to become involved in twinning. For further information and a membership form, please contact the Secretary via the Contacts Page.
